When I like to generate reports in test runner mode I would have to change the source code then? Or is there any other way?

In the pure-JavaScript mode, the logs are only generated if you click on the "Show Log" button prior to launching your tests.  The logs are written directly into that window.

In Driven mode, it's up to the driver code to do the logging...  log anywhere you like.

If you want to capture the results of the test-run, see the section
regarding "Continuous Integration" at

    http://www.openqa.org/selenium/testrunner.html

Selenium can't write directly to a file, due to browser security
restrictions; instead you can instruct it to post results to a "results
handler" (servlet or similar).

The popup logging window that Dan mentions is meant more for internal
debugging, not so much for reporting on test-results.
