Patching Selenium inside Selenium Recorder is simple.
The xpi file is simply a zip file, so unzip it, and then unzip chrome/seleniumrecorder.jar which is also a zip file.
You can find selenium directory inside it, so apply patches to that and zip them back again, and drop the xpi file into your Firefox.
You can also build Selenium IDE from source using ant. It's described here.
http://wiki.openqa.org/display/SIDE/Building+Selenium+IDE

To record keyboards and mouse events in Selenium IDE, I guess you'll have to add some codes in recorder-events.js.
